Antique Cameras their Users and their place in History

Located in Staunton in Western Central Virginia The Camera Heritage Museum houses a unique collection of antique cameras dating from the 19th century to modern times. They often have both a historical significance and a provenance that is interesting to all. We have opened this collection to the public so that everyone has an opportunity to view these historical treasures. You will find samples of many of the different kinds of cameras which the museum exhibits in the galleries listed above. We are in the process of adding the stories of these cameras and their photographers. If you do not find information that you are looking for we may be listing it any day now.

Be sure to visit our Galleries link above to see our collection of cameras.

It’s updated daily on Facebook!

Our collection is growing constantly. We received our first large collection of cameras and accessories and images from LSU at Lafayette. We want to thank Wilson Trucking for free transportation of this collection. In the first 5 years of the museum we have had over 180 donors.

We are also researching the careers of local photographers and their contributions to photography and local history. Please look under Regional Photographers

Lastly, we have a large over 2000 image collection of antique photos of Staunton and Augusta County. These photos are truly worth a thousand words in what they reveal about the life of the area. This section is also growing as we digitize the images.

We hope you will enjoy our web site and that you are able to come to Staunton to see the museum in person.
