There are many old historic towns in central Virginia which are worth a stop along your way. To our East Waynesboro, Charlottesville and Richmond are great places to explore. To our South are Lexington with W&L University, VMI, the home of Stonewall Jackson and the tomb of Robert E Lee and Lynchburg with Poplar Forest, summer home of Thomas Jefferson. To our North is the New Market Battle field where the students of VMI joined Southern troops to help drive off a Union attack. Most lost their shoes in a muddy field during this battle. And there is Strasburg near the intersection of I 66 and I 81 and Belle Grove Plantation.
